Mrs Julie Browne

Julie is a Senior Lecturer in Academic Practice at Cardiff University and course lead for the intercalated BSc in Medical Education. Her professional background is in academic publishing and she has worked with a number of journal boards including Sociology (1995-1998). She was Managing Editor of Medical Education and The Clinical Teacher from 2001 to 2008. 

She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators, having been one of its founding members, and has served on all its standing committees since 2007 as well as chairing its Membership and Conference Organising Committee. She was elected Vice Chair of its Council in 2015. Julie is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has been a GMC Education Associate since 2010, and is the author or co-author of a number of peer reviewed publications on medical education, including several book chapters, a number of key reports including the GMC Essential User Guide to the Recognition of Trainers, and a book (with Alan Bleakley and John Bligh).

 

Julie is a member of the Association for the Study of Medical Education, the Association for Medical Education in Europe and the Association for Medical Humanities.  Her research interests include medical humanities, publication ethics and curriculum theory. In 2015 she was awarded the President's Silver Medal of the Academy of Medical Educators for outstanding and sustained contributions to medical education.
