Dr. Varpio is a professor at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr Varpio is internationally recognized for her medical education research that harnesses her expertise in qualitative research and theories from the social sciences and humanities.

To date, across her 16 year tenure in the field, she has secured nearly $6million in research funding and has published over 180 manuscripts. Her research has won innumerable national and international awards. She has given invited talks at hospitals and medical schools around the world, and she has led invited sessions and given plenaries at some of the largest academic medicine conferences in the world.
