Josh is a third-year medical student at Cardiff University with consistently high academic performance and a keen interest in neurosurgery and spinal surgery. Drawn to the complexity, precision, and transformative impact of these specialties, Josh is motivated by their potential to significantly improve patients' quality of life through both surgical skill and innovation. With a background in Psychology (BSc) with First-Class Honours, their research experience has centred on psychopharmacology, specifically exploring the use of ketamine in treating alcohol use disorders and depression.
Currently, they are undertaking an internship evaluating multimodal rehabilitation in oncological patients and work as a healthcare assistant in London. Beyond clinical interests, Josh has several years of experience tutoring biology, chemistry, and mathematics, and is passionate about medical education and peer support.
Driven by a desire to contribute to the advancement of student-led research, Josh joined the BSDJ to help foster an environment that values and promotes critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and the dissemination of high-quality student research. They are particularly enthusiastic about the role of student journals in supporting the professional development of future clinicians and researchers.
Josh hopes to continue publishing and mentoring others in the research process, contributing to a more collaborative and inclusive medical community.
