Dr Shivani Kanabar

Editor-in-Chief

Shivani graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2022 with Honours and with a First Class Honours BMedSc in Clinical Sciences. She achieved multiple prizes whilst in medical school in recognition of her academic performance.

Alongside her clinical education, Shivani fostered a keen interest in academic medicine, which has so far culminated in her publishing 5 studies in peer-reviewed journals; presenting and authoring 12 national and international conference presentations; and receiving 11 prestigious prizes and grants to recognise and support her academic work. Her most high-profile project to date was a large systematic review of immunotherapy outcomes in lung cancer, which she published as first author in Thorax BMJ.

Having secured a highly competitive Specialised Foundation Programme post in Medical Education, Shivani is now an academic NHS Foundation doctor based in Birmingham. She has active roles in research, teaching, and leadership. She hopes to channel her experience to support the growth of the BSDJ and encourage more trainees to consider a career in academic medicine in the upcoming year.
