James is a post-doctoral research fellow at Stanford University, California, where he is currently conducting clinical trials for skin cancer and bioinformatic studies for skin disease.

James is a member of the Cardiff University School of Medicine Class of 2017, and previously graduated with first class honours from Cardiff University with a BSc in Medical Education. Following graduation from medical school, James completed the prestigious two year Academic Foundation Programme at the University of Oxford. He is also an Honorary Tutor at Cardiff University and a member of the Academy of Medical Educators and Oxford University Medical Education Fellows.

He has extensively published in the field of medical education, including research involving written knowledge assessments and small-group learning. He is also a peer-reviewer for several leading journals, including the BMJ and Medical Education, and he also has previous editorial experience of running a US medical journal.
